ADR & UN-Certified Bulk Bags | Bulk Bags for Hazardous Goods

Our ADR or UN-certified bulk bags are designed for the carriage of hazardous or potentially hazardous substances, goods or materials.

These bulk bags have been specially designed and manufactured to comply completely with the recognized UN standards for the safe transportation of dangerous goods.

Our ADR/UN IP 1 certified bulk bags are suitable for the transportation of a wide range of goods where there exists a danger of fire, explosion, chemical burns, toxic contamination or environmental damage.

It is a legal requirement that all ADR or UN IP 1 certified bulk bags must have been rigorously tested against the required United Nations standards – often referred to as ‘The Orange Book’.

ADR & UN Bulk Bags Key Features

  • Rigorously tested to meet UN certification standards.
  • Resistant to accidental dropping, toppling, tearing, stacking, and self-righting.
  • Durable, legible, and readily visible UN markings.
  • Available in 4 types to suit different hazard levels and packaging requirements.
  • Customizable with company branding.

Testing & Certification

To pass UN certification, our ADR/UN-certified bulk bags undergo a comprehensive testing process both in-house and by independent test houses:

  • Top Lift Test: The bag is loaded with a 6x maximum load.
  • Tear Test: A 100mm tear is made, and the bag is then filled to 2x max load.
  • Stacking Test: The bag is loaded with 1.8x max permitted stacking weight.
  • Drop Test: Bag filled with max load is dropped from 80-120cm.
  • Topple Test: Filled bag is toppled from 80-120cm.
  • Righting Test: The filled bag is lifted to an upright position using 1-2 loops.

Once the bags pass all required tests, they are issued a UN certification number that is clearly marked on the packaging.

ADR & UN Certified Bulk Bags and Soft Sided Packaging

For the carriage of dangerous goods in Bulk Bags (FIBC’s) and Soft Sided Packaging

Dangerous goods are those which have been classified to have hazardous materials in all or part of them according to international regulations. The various types of materials are then grouped into 9 classes for identification.

The carriage of dangerous and hazardous goods in bulk bags by road, sea and rail carry the risk of accidents, leading to possible spillage or leakage which could create a risk such as fire, explosions, chemical burn or an environmental issue. Regulations are in place to ensure that those who come into contact during the transportation process, or the emergency services in the case of an incident, can quickly identify the materials being transported to provide a suitable response. These regulations are known as ADR or Accord Dangereux Routier (European regulations concerning the international transport of dangerous goods by road).

It is, therefore, a legal requirement that dangerous goods are packaged in containers which are ‘type approved’ or certified to UN standards as suitable for transportation of these materials. UN Certified Packaging is marked clearly to indicate hazardous materials are being transported.
