FIBCs and Their Benefits

Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs), usually known as bulk bags or big bags, play a huge part in industrial packaging. But what exactly are FIBCs, and how do they help you?

What are FIBCs?

These durable, flexible containers are designed to help you handle, transport and store dry, flowable products like sand, fertiliser, grains and chemicals, safely, securely and cost-effectively. They’re made from woven polypropylene fabric and can safely carry loads from 500kg anywhere up to 2000kg.

Available in multiples designs, they’re great if you need that extra versatility. They’re also lightweight, reusable, and easy to fill, transport and store. And thanks to how easy they are to stack, they’ll help you maximise your space and lower your transport costs.

They can be customised with your choice of features like liners for moisture-sensitive products, UV protection for outdoor storage, and bespoke printing. And as many are recyclable, they’re a good choice if you’re focused on sustainability.

FIBCs are a great option for helping you improve your efficiency, reduce your costs, and make sure of workplace safety.

The 5 Most Common Bulk Bags

1. Type A

Standard, non-conductive bags made from plain-woven polypropylene. They’re perfect for transporting your non-flammable products and substances that don’t need static protection.

2. Type B

Similar to Type A but with a lower breakdown voltage. They stop sparks propagating, so they’re great for your dry, combustible powders that don’t need electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.

3. Type C

Made from fabric with interwoven conductive threads, they safely ground any static charge that builds up when you’re filling and discharging – vital if you’re handling flammable powders or there’s a flammable atmosphere around your bag.

4. Type D

Made from antistatic or static dissipative fabric that stops sparks and discharge, without needing grounding – ideal if you’re transporting flammable powders in potentially explosive environments.

5. Food Grade

Manufactured under strict conditions to make absolutely sure you meet food safety standards, they let you transport and store your food products without risking contamination.
