What Are The Different Types of Bulk Bags?

Bulk bags are used to move rubble at construction sites, store grain on farms, and transport hazardous powders in chemical plants.

Finding the right bag for you depends on what’s going in it, how you’re handling it and where it’s going. Here’s a quick rundown of the kinds of bulk bags you can buy and the custom features you can add.

Construction Styles

The way your bulk bag’s stitched and shaped can have a big impact on its stability, durability and ability to keep its shape.

  • Standard FIBCs are a reliable, cost-effective design with four corner lifting loops. Used for general dry goods, they’ll give you a good balance of strength and affordability if retaining shape isn’t a priority for you.
  • U+2 Panel Bags are made from a U-shaped body with two extra side panels stitched in. This adds strength, so your bag will stack better and hold up to repeated handling.
  • Four-Panel Bags are built from four individual panels stitched together to create a cube shape. This design keeps its square form when you fill it, giving you neater pallet stacking and better use of your storage space.
  • Circular Woven Bags are made from a continuous woven polypropylene panel that forms the sidewall. This seamless design makes it a good choice if you’re working with pellets, plastic granules, or fine powders that push outwards when you stack them.
  • Q-Bag / Baffle Bags are FIBCs that have internal fabric baffles sewn into each corner to stop bulging. This keeps your bag square – great for stackability and making the most of your container or pallet space.

Filling And Top Designs

The top design makes a big difference to your loading speed, cleanliness and safety.

  • Open Top Designs are fully open for fast loading with shovels, buckets or conveyor chutes. They’re great for your coarse materials like sand, gravel or rubble, where dust control isn’t as key.
  • Filling Spouts give you a controlled entry point for your powders, granules or other free-flowing materials. Adding a filling spout limits your dust and spillage, and makes it easier for you to fill from hoppers or silos.
  • Skirt / Duffle Tops are a wide fabric extension over your bag’s opening that you can tie closed after filling. This gives you more protection from moisture, contamination or product loss during handling and storage.

Specialised Options

Some materials, industries or regulations mean you need specialist designs to make sure your bags are 100% safe, compliant and up to the job.

ADR and UN-Certified Bags meet strict global safety rules and testing for transporting hazardous goods. They’re approved for chemicals, flammable powders and other regulated materials.

Anti-Static Bags (Type C and Type D) are designed to be used with combustible materials or in areas holding anything flammable.

  • Type C bags need grounding to dissipate static.
  • Type D bags dissipate static without grounding.

Food-Grade & Pharma-Grade Bags are FIBCs that are compliant with international standards like BRC, ISO 22000 or HACCP. You can use them to transport your food, pharmaceuticals and hygiene-sensitive contents.
