Flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs) are used in nearly every industry, from construction to chemical engineering.
Durable, adaptable and customisable, they’re a great choice for safely storing and transporting both your raw materials and your finished products.
With such a crucial role, it’s vital that they’re made to withstand everything you need them to.
They’re mostly made from polypropylene (PP) fabric, a strong, durable and thermoplastic polymer. Resistant to moisture, chemicals and UV radiation, it’s perfect for bulk bags. The bags come with woven polypropylene lifting loops, to make them easy to handle, and can also have extra coatings to give you extra protection.
You can choose from four different types, depending on what you need:
Type A: No electrostatic protection.
Type B: Surface breakdown voltage of less than 6kV.
Type C: Electrically conductive or groundable.
Type D: Static dissipative.
Here’s the process that makes 100% sure they’re up to your job:
PP resin and other additives are fed into an extruder, making PP tapes of different thickness and widths. The melted resin forms PP sheets, which are then stretched by rollers and cut.
The PP tapes are wound onto bobbins for special looms to weave the fabric, creating either circular-shaped bags or U-panels for different FIBC bag styles.
They’re vacuumed to remove any loose fibres or debris from the woven fabric, making sure the surface is totally clean.
Extra layers are sometimes added for extra reinforcement or barriers.
Any information you need (like safety instructions or company logos) can be printed straight onto the fabric.
The woven fabric is cut into panels that match the bag design (rectangular, circular, or U-panel) – it’s crucial to be precise so the bag dimensions are consistent.
Skilled workers sew the panels together, creating the bag’s body. They also attach lifting loops and anything else that’s needed.
Each FIBC bag is rigorously tested, including stress testing for drop and jerk forces.
Reliable, versatile and durable, FIBCs are a great choice, whatever you need.
